There are many companies that make metal detectors and there are metal detectors for a variety of detection purposes. This is about the technology involved in the operation of the many metal detectors made available. All metal detectors have a control box, shaft and search coil. Each serves a particular purpose. The control box is where you will find the circuitry and mechanisms that control the metal detector. You will find the batteries, speakers and processors for operation on the control box. The batteries allow energy for operation, the speaker alerts you to the possibility of metal discovered in the search and the microprocessor allows for that information to translate. You will find the shaft adjustable and connecting to the control box. This allows for the item to adjust to the particular height of the users. The search coil is the piece closest to the earth and does the metal detecting. There are a wide variety of technologies used in making the metal detector work. There is very low frequency technology and it is probably the most popular. It utilizes two coils in its operation. One is for transmitting while the other coil is for receiving information. It operates by picking up the frequency of the metal object once it has been detected. There is another technology often used by metal detectors called pulse induction. This generally uses a single coil that does both functions of the very low frequency technology. It transmits and receives from a single coil bringing about the same result of detecting metal frequency. The other technology sometimes used is called beat frequency oscillation. With beat frequency oscillation you will find the metal detector bearing two coils and both are central to the oscillator. One will be located in the search head closest to the ground while the other will be found in the control box. These are the three major technologies utilized in metal detectors. If you are looking for coins or rare metals in the open or closed spaces of your community, it is likely that you are using a metal detector that utilizes one these technologies. They are the center of technological operation for modern metal detectors.
